NOVEMBER 12 UPDATE: The $100 Personal Capital bonus offer has expired. It’s now $50. I’ve updated my links below.
Need extra cash? For a limited time, Personal Capital has increased its sign-up bonus to $100 for new users.
Personal Capital is a financial app that’s similar to Mint, but it focuses a lot more on investments. I really like playing around with its free retirement calculator to see if I’m on track to retire early.
This $100 Amazon gift card bonus is rare. Usually, the sign-up offer is $20 or $50. That’s why I’m sharing my referral link.
Get a $100 Amazon gift card when you sign up for Personal Capital’s free tools
I want to make sure that you get the bonus, so please read this entire article carefully. First of all, you must link a qualified investment account (401k, IRA, 529, etc.) with a balance of more than $1,000 within 30 days.
I know people are skeptical about free gift card offers, but this is NOT a scam. I’ve had a number of successful referrals.
“Giveaway hosted by Personal Capital. A user must link at least one valid investment account (brokerage, 401k, IRA, etc) containing a balance of more than $1000 within 30 days of registering. An Amazon.com Gift Card will be awarded to each new user who links a valid investment account as well as to the user who refers the new user. All awards will be electronically delivered within six weeks from registration to the user’s email provided in the registration process.”
When will your Amazon gift card arrive?
Several people who’ve signed up with my referral link have received their Amazon gift card about 24 to 48 hours after completing the required step — linking an investment account with a $1,000+ balance.
For example, someone who signed up with my link on 10/13/2018 got their $100 gift card via email on 10/15/2018. This promotion really started to get attention on 10/15/2018 and some gift cards are taking longer to process now.
I called Personal Capital on October 18 and confirmed that there’s a backlog in the fulfillment process. The official terms and conditions say it could take up to six weeks to receive your gift card, but it’s typically much faster.
If you used a valid $100 link to sign up and followed the step above, your Amazon gift card will arrive soon!
Need help? I’m here for you!
When you click on the link, it should say: “Michael Timmermann invited you to try Personal Capital’s free tools. When you join we’ll give you each $100.”
I don’t think you’ll have any problems, but go ahead and take a screengrab of the offer just in case.
Having trouble linking your investment account with Personal Capital? Try this…
Most people have no trouble connecting their investment account with a $1,000 balance (Vanguard, Fidelity, etc.), but here’s something to try if you’re getting an error message:
- Open a new browser and log in to your investment account (Vanguard, Fidelity, etc.)
- Go back to Personal Capital and try to link the account again
Still having issues? You can contact Personal Capital support by clicking “Help” in the lower right corner of the screen if you’re on a desktop.
What you need to know about Personal Capital
Personal Capital’s money tools are free, but they may try to get you to upgrade to manage your investments, which is a paid service. Just say no thanks! They will take you off their list.
Some people have used the link to sign up, waited to receive the gift card and then deleted their account. That’s up to you.
I’ve been using Personal Capital for several years. Like I mentioned, the free retirement planning tools are my favorite. I also regularly log in to check my net worth.
Update: Where to find YOUR $100 Personal Capital referral link
Once you sign up for Personal Capital, you may be wondering where to find your referral link to share with family and friends. Unfortunately, not everyone will get the $100 link for the fall promo offer.
Normally, the bonus is only $20 or $50 anyway. I found my link after clicking on “Get $100” in the upper right corner of the home screen.
A personal note of thanks!
Thank you to everyone who has used my Personal Capital referral link! I’ve already started the process of paying it forward.
The first call I made was to Hammond Elementary School in Laurel, Maryland. As a child, the teachers and students at school helped me through some very difficult years.
Hammond’s Assistant Principal gave me a list of needed items and they just arrived. Love that two-day shipping!
