Are Blue Apron Cooking Kits Worth The Cost?

Meals in a box are super trendy right now, but are they worth the cost? I recently bought a Blue Apron cooking kit for my mother as a gift and decided to order another one for myself to see if it lived up to the hype. Since then, a few of my friends have also given Blue Apron a try. Here is my (our) review!

How does Blue Apron work?

Blue Apron delivers all of the ingredients needed to make meals in your own kitchen. Yes, you prepare the meals yourself. This simply saves you a trip to the store. Before the box arrives in the mail, you can choose the type of meals you want delivered. There are two plans: one is for two people and the other serves four. Meals are delivered weekly, but you can skip deliveries whenever you want and you won’t be charged.

Is it easy?

A Blue Apron dinner is not quite as simple as some of Rachael Ray’s 30 minute meals, but I didn’t have trouble with the recipes. There are beautiful recipe cards included for each of the meals. I had three meals delivered and each took about 45 minutes to an hour to prepare. If you’re like me, you will have plenty of dishes to clean up after you eat! The good thing is that because Blue Apron sends only the amount of product necessary, there is no waste.

Does the food taste good?

I was really impressed with my Blue Apron experience. In fact, the picture below is the first time I ever dared to prepare salmon at home. It was fantastic. The three meals I tried packed a lot of flavor in every bite. I will also say that the portions were good, though some people may want to have a salad or soup as a starter.
