Comcast is launching new internet and phone plans
0:03
and believe it or not, these plans could save you some money. Let's get into it
0:07
The new plans are not from Xfinity. Instead, these plans are being offered
0:11
under a new prepaid brand called Now. This brand includes four products
0:16
internet, phone, TV, and Wi-Fi pass. I just got off the phone with my contact at Comcast
0:22
and my biggest takeaway is that these new plans are more flexible, all in prepaid pricing
0:28
no contracts, and no credit checks. Let's start with more on that internet plan
0:33
There are two Now internet plans, 100 megabits per second for 30 bucks a month
0:38
or 200 megabits per second for $45 a month. These plans include unlimited data
0:43
and an Xfinity gateway, no additional charge. When you sign up for either plan
0:48
you'll get a self-install kit, so you shouldn't have to pay for a technician
0:52
to come to your house and set up the service. 100 or 200 megabits per second
0:57
it doesn't sound all that fast for a cable internet connection, especially with all the marketing around gig speed plans
1:04
but most households just don't need a gig speed plan. 100 or 200 megabits per second plans
1:10
are best for singles, couples, and small families. And that's because the more devices you've got connected
1:15
and in use at the same time, the faster speeds you're gonna need
1:19
But check the minimum speed requirements for a service like YouTube TV
1:23
They're pretty low. So these plans are fast enough to stream TV
1:26
browse the web, and use all the apps on your phone. We've talked a little bit about Now Internet
1:31
so here's what I can tell you about Now Mobile. This prepaid phone service offers unlimited 5G data
1:37
talk, and text, $25 a month per line. But just a warning
1:42
there's also a $25 per line activation fee. While data is unlimited
1:47
your speeds are gonna be slowed after 20 gigabytes per month. The phone service relies on Verizon's network
1:53
and Xfinity's hotspots, just like the Xfinity mobile service that I've tested multiple times since 2017
2:00
$25 a month. It's a great value for an unlimited plan on Verizon's network
2:05
And it's actually the same price that I pay for an unlimited plan with Visible
2:09
that's owned by Verizon and also uses Verizon's network. Here's what I've learned from Comcast
2:14
Now Internet and Now Mobile, they're both being trialed in the city shown on your screen
2:19
and they'll be available in all Comcast markets. That's in the next few weeks
2:24
Let's continue. Now TV is also part of this prepaid brand, but this service, it's not exactly new
2:31
Available to Xfinity internet customers, it offers access to live and on-demand content
2:37
More than 40 cable TV networks, more than two dozen free streaming channels
2:41
and Peacock Premium. I've been able to test this one out. I think of it as a stripped down version of Philo
2:47
And by that, I mean Now TV's bundle focuses on lifestyle, not cable sports, news, and local stations
2:54
That's why it's so affordable. I'll mention briefly the fourth prepaid offering
2:58
and that's Now Wi-Fi Pass. This is another product that Comcast previously offered
3:03
and it lets you connect to more than 20 million Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots
3:07
across the country. The price, $20 for 30 days of service. Back to the two new products, Now Internet and Now Mobile
3:15
both affordably priced and maybe worth considering if you live in an area that Comcast serves
3:21
These plans are likely in part a response to the rise of 5G home internet services
3:26
If you've watched my channel, you know I've been conducting a long-term test of both Verizon and T-Mobile's 5G home internet plans
3:33
They start around 50 bucks a month, include equipment, unlimited data, no contracts
3:38
For a lot of people, those 5G plans have become alternatives to Xfinity's postpaid plans
3:44
plans that sometimes have a low introductory rate and equipment included, but only for a period of time
3:51
The price typically goes up after a year, maybe two years. The new broadband fax labels that recently rolled out
3:58
they make it a lot easier to get a full picture of the pricing and performance
4:02
before you sign up for an internet plan. I've also got a new tool on michaelsavesdeals.com
4:08
It'll help you compare internet options in your area. By the way, almost forgot to mention this
4:13
Now Internet is not replacing the postpaid Xfinity Essentials plans. Those are for low-income households
4:19
and they'll still be available to those who qualify. Thanks for watching
