MichaelSaves.com is a personal blog that’s written and edited by me, Michael Timmermann.
After I paid off my $86,000 mortgage in two years, I founded this website in January 2014 to share practical ways to save more money.
I’ve been writing about personal finance for about a decade, but you should know that I’m not a CPA, banker or investment professional.
My background is in journalism. I try to be fair, accurate and thorough in my writing.
If you have any questions or comments about the content you see on MichaelSaves.com, contact me at email@example.com.
MichaelSaves.com earns income through various forms of advertising.
The best way for me to explain how I operate this website is to take a closer look at my Editorial Promise, sentence by sentence.
I only share my experience with products and services that I personally use or have used in the past. To support my work, some articles contain affiliate links. I do not accept sponsored posts from advertisers.
1. I only share my experience with products and services that I personally use or have used in the past.
When I publish a product or service review, it’s because I’ve tried it out myself and think my readers may want to learn more.
I will never accept freebies from product or service providers.
To provide unbiased reviews, I always pay for the products and services that I test or take advantage of free trials available to the general public.
2. To support my work, some articles contain affiliate links.
Although MichaelSaves.com is not my full-time job, I do spend a lot of time writing articles and have taken steps to monetize my blog.
I have two main revenue sources: Google AdSense and affiliate links.
With Google AdSense, I choose where I want ads to appear and insert a piece of code on the site. Google then decides which ads to show my readers.
Affiliate or referral links work a little differently and give me more control over what you see.
As a blogger, I’m a member of several affiliate programs like FlexOffers, CJ.com and Amazon Associates. I also share personal referral links for several apps.
When a reader clicks on one of my links, I may receive a small commission.
For example, I wrote about CIT Bank and Discover Bank in an article about my online banking strategy. I have an affiliate relationship with CIT Bank but not Discover Bank.
If someone signs up for CIT Bank using a link or banner from my website, I will be compensated.
These affiliate links allow me to generate income from the site at no cost the reader, but I carefully choose where and when to use them.
I only insert affiliate links when I believe the product or service will benefit my readers.
3. I do not accept sponsored posts from advertisers.
I write every single article that you see on MichaelSaves.com. This website reflects my personal experiences, opinions and beliefs — period.
I will never accept payment from an advertiser in exchange for an endorsement.
As I mentioned earlier, I pay for the products and services that I try. When companies offer to send me freebies, I decline them and refer to my editorial policy.
