Michael’s Thoughts: Tips to Help You Choose a Plan

  • Internet options vary depending on where you live. Ideally, you will have the option of either fiber, cable or 5G home internet. While 5G home internet services are expanding, they’re not available everywhere. Check back with this tool regularly for updates.
  • Many people are willing to pay more for fiber internet. Fiber is best. Providers typically offer fast download and upload speeds, plus a lower latency (good for gaming).
  • Despite the marketing attacks from cable companies, 5G home internet services are adequate for many households. I rely on 5G home internet and use it to run Michael Saves. However, these services would not be my first pick for heavy gamers because the ping/latency can be less stable.
  • Verizon and T-Mobile 5G home internet both offer good signup deals for new customers. In addition, Verizon has added new streaming perks for home internet customers that have added value to the plan. 5G home internet services can be purchased standalone, but the best rates go to customers who bundle with a wireless plan.
  • Note about Verizon and T-Mobile Home Internet: In some areas, the 5G service is not available but 4G/LTE may be offered. I only recommend the 4G/LTE service to people in rural areas with very limited options like DSL.
  • Cable internet providers are responding to the new competition from 5G home internet. You may find a good deal from a cable provider, but read the fine print. Typically, cable providers will increase your monthly rate after the first year. You can save by bundling cable internet and wireless service. One exception is NOW Internet from Xfinity, which has stable pricing, unlimited data and equipment included. Watch my review here.
